According to the weather man, I've finished this quilt top just in time for the giant nor-easter storm to roll on through Pittsburgh. Whaaat? Seriously folks, it was 80 degrees here on Friday, and its predicted for 6 inches of snow tomorrow? Craziness.
This makes me all the more happy to have this bright cheery "I-scream-summer" quilt top to work on, and think of much warmer temperatures. Bertha and I spent some quality time this weekend, and the majority of that was spent piecing this guy together.
Mr. Scallops came together quite quickly with the help of my Accuquilt and Drunkards Path die, and good ole pal rotary cutter to trim the blocks for assembly. My preplanned color chart was super helpful in remembering where each color was supposed to go.
This quilt top just screams to be placed under a bright vibrant beach umbrella on warm soft sand, so you can bet that's what I'll be thinking about while quilting this guy.
I took advantage of Joann's big sale this weekend and stocked up on quilt batting, so I'll be a basting machine over the next few days with a few tops that have just been waiting for batting to be purchased. Also, I did a fairly large house clean yesterday, and feel its necessary to take advantage of those nice clean floors for some basting action.
What about you? What were you sewing this weekend??

Wow that is so lovely! It looks wonderful. I really want to make one. Now. I'll be basting things this week too! I tried to get the rest of my bee blocks for April done this weekend, and swap things in order and did pretty well.
ReplyDeleteI really love this quilt top - it's so happy! Hope it doesn't get too nasty weather-wise for you this week!
Craziness indeed! Snow?????
ReplyDeleteThe scallop top is just wonderful. Definitely summery!
That. It. Awesome.
ReplyDelete(Not the weather prediction, the quilt!)
How clever! It took me a bit to figure out that they were little blocks instead of big scallops... Well done!
ReplyDeleteSo summery - they look like ice cream tops !
ReplyDeleteI was thinking ice cream cone tops as well! It is so pretty. Is there any chance you are thinking of selling this pattern or doing a tutorial? Thanks for sharing the photos!
ReplyDeleteIn the middle of painting of my living room, I wish I could sew. Your scallop quilt looks freakin' awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have been drooling over that ever since you started it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love it, Jess!
ReplyDeleteNovel way of using the DP die and I just love it....raining here if it makes you feel better!
ReplyDeleteWonderful. What a great way to use Drunkard's Path.
ReplyDeleteSuch an awesome quilt top, Jess, I love the way that you used a drunkard's path block in a new, unique way :) And wow about all that snow this morning for you!! Sure hope you're either snowed in for a great day of snowing or digging yourself out nicely :)

ReplyDeleteMaybe you'll get stuck inside with all the snow and have a day of sewing -- what a dream!
That looks so summery and cheerful! Enjoy your snow. That's just crazy!
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I read the bit about the clean floors! I did the same thing this weekend. We cleaned for my daughter's birthday party and I basted a quilt on the clean floor yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I can't believe that it's just dp blocks. Seriously amazing!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Using drunkard's path blocks was genius!
ReplyDeleteWell your top is certainly spring-y even if your weather isn't! Hope the storm isn't so awful for you!
ReplyDeleteSO stunning!! Beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteCool, love how it all came together
ReplyDeleteI've been planning a quilt using this method for a few months, and it's so great to see yours! It CAN be done! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat size are your DP blocks? And what are the final dimensions of your quilt?
I totally saw ice cream scoops, too! Then again, it may be because I'm in Arizona and it was 105 degrees yesterday... :/ Great top!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Reminds me of a certain something sitting on my couch.... :)
ReplyDeleteLove the quilting! What are you using for binding??
