Finished lions and tigers and bears!

I can't believe how quickly this quilt has come together, but I'm so so happy with the result!

It's kind of a mish mosh of fabrics from Joann's with some solid Kona fabric for the backing and sashing. I found the green jungle print first and then just found some bright greens, oranges, yellows and blues to make up the rest of the blocks.

I can't wait for baby to get here so he/she can enjoy their jungle quilt!

Here's a pic of the back, I used some yellow and turquoise solids and then pieced a row of the focus fabric from the front with smaller pieces of the other fabrics from the front.

There's nothing I love more than a pieced quilt back! I think it just makes the whole quilt.

Here's more of a close up of the back that shows off the quilting a little better. I used my good ole faithful stippling/meandering. Everytime I think I'm going to veer away and try something new, I come back to it, but always love love the result.

Now I must stash this quilt away and wait for the little one to arrive! Next up is yet another baby quilt, but this time I have flying geese stuck in my head, nice and simple a la this only with some more super fabulous jungle prints I found on fabric.com...stay tuned!

  1. Oh, Jessica, I had no idea looking at the top just how much I was going to like this quilt when you finished it !

I just really, really, REALLY like it ! (trying so hard not to say LOVE, since I like to reserve that for PEOPLE !)

Everything came together so perfectly, and I am so tickled to see a quilt that isn't totally dependent on one specific "collection" of fabric. You are proof that there are still some young people who can CHOOSE fabrics to go together !

And I'm crazy about the fact that the piecing on the back of the quilt goes up and down, instead of horizontal (vertical, that's the word I was looking for, but you know what I mean !)

I'm with you on loving the pieced backs, ........ I almost dread the next time I decide to hand-quilt, because I love these pieced backs and they are so much easier to machine-quilt than by hand !

Great job ! I know how hard it'll be to put up until it's needed. I'm 'sitting on' Autumn Taylor's Polka Spots quilt until the end of this month, and it's KILLING ME !

  2. Thanks Dolly! I think picking the fabric is onle of my favorite parts of the quilting process (that tied with the actual quilting I think), and I one million percent agree on a pieced back to a quilt! I think it just really makes it complete. Thanks again for your nice comments!!

  3. It is my mission to try quilting this week, bit dubious that I can keep it all cut accurately, I have never tried it. I love (not just reserved for people)your quilt. Its so vibrant-perfect for a new baby-very stimulating. I think its a great idea to make the back so pretty too. I would not have thought of that.
