Spiderweb blocks and a sneak peak

In my excitement to share my finished quilt top yesterday, I forgot to add my latest quilting bee pics!  October is my month in the Simply Strings quilting bee, and I chose spiderweb blocks.  I wanted to pick a block that uses solids, so that when its my month for the solid bee (not till June), can request the same style blocks and then combine both sets into one quilt.

I chose an array of blues, greens, yellows and grays

I ended up omitting the palest green, it was a little to drab for the rest of the colors...

Can't wait to see what the girls come up with!!

And just in case your curious...The value quilt back has been made and I spent the evening on my hands and knees pin basting the layers together!

This is my first attempt at pin basting, I have used basting spray on all my previous quilts, and while quick and simple, I have been less than impressed with small puckers showing up on the back of anything larger than a crib sized quilt.  Cross your fingers, hopefully the quilting goes smoothly!

  1. I caught a sneak peak of your solids block in my conacts on Flickr and wondered why you didn't add it to yesterday's post.

I had out a quilt-top today that reminded me of a values top.....I'll have to photograph it soon and show you.

I pin-basted in my quilt frame, rather than flat on the floor or a table, and I actually got a few puckers on the front rather than on the back. Nothing obvious, thankfully.......I think the pins will work for me, but I need to baste on a flat surface from now on. That just kills my knees......guess I'll have to borrow some tables somewhere.

  2. That's funny: I made a flier for a pancake breakfast we're planning out here in those colors!

  4. What did you think of the pin basting? I've only finished one quilt and that is what I did and thought it went really well. I didn't do any crazy quilting designs, just ditch stitching.
